VSI Communications' eLearning Tools Enhance Employee Training for DaimlerChrysler Engineering Group

VSI's Mentor™ training software helps engineers gain productivity

NORWALK, CT., October 5, 2000 —Employee training at a global organization like DaimlerChrysler goes far beyond the traditional seminar or video. It requires a multi-dimensional approach— from classroom instruction to the latest in help desk resources and support. So, when engineers at DaimlerChrysler's Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan needed to quickly master the calendar and scheduling components of Lotus Notes, they decided to test a unique training tool.

DaimlerChrysler turned to VSI Communications Group's Mentor™ for Lotus Notes, the world's leading just-in-time training solution that allows employees to master the application quickly, at their own desktop, while they are using Notes. VSI, a subsidiary of PSINet Consulting Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of PSINet Inc. (Nasdaq: PSIX), is the leading content-development firm focused on creating just-in-time eLearning tools for major corporations and eBusinesses.

Deployed by major corporations worldwide, Mentor™ for Lotus Notes is an eLearning tool that provides the training information users need at the moment they need it. The result is that users learn the application organically, while they are doing their jobs and working in the application they need to master.

"Mentor has proven to be an ingenious approach to employee training," said Dan Gallo, President and CEO at VSI Communications. "Mentor delivers information in highly memorable, multimedia doses. Prescribed for the exact issue a user is currently grappling to learn."

"We viewed VSI's Mentor as an opportunity to test the Lotus software with a group of engineers who typically don't have time to attend classroom or computer-based training courses," said Claudia VonDrak, supervisor of DaimlerChrysler's Customer Office Productivity Team. "With Mentor, we give the engineers access to a virtual tutor available wherever and whenever they need it. We believe that initial classroom training is important to show employees the standard operating procedures for Notes, but Mentor reinforces what they learn in class and allows them to access that information back at the office while using Notes."

To increase the engineers' awareness and use of Mentor, VonDrak's team worked with VSI to create an internal promotion to introduce the software. The campaign included e-mail marketing, a contest and an event.
