British Computer Maker Bundles Mentor to Reduce Support Costs
Norwalk, Connecticut, USA, 13 February 2001 -- In a major deal with Tiny Computers, Britain's third largest computer manufacturer, Mentor Media Group introduces a new way for technology companies to reduce support costs and to gain a competitive market advantage. As a result of the agreement, Mentor Media Group's Mentor, a communication, learning, and support system (CLS) is now bundled with every Tiny computer shipped in the UK.
When the computer is first turned on, "Tiny Trainer," an animated character Mentor Media Group created for Tiny Computers, gives a fast, entertaining tour of the desktop, orients users to basic computer concepts and walks them through the steps of signing up for Tiny's online ISP service. Tiny Trainer also directs users to Mentor's comprehensive support for Windows Me, Microsoft Outlook Express and Internet Explorer: all part of Tiny's standard desktop configuration.
In Tiny's ROI analysis, the manufacturer estimated that a reduction in support costs by less than 10 percent would pay for entire Mentor package. The company was so pleased with the customer response to Tiny Trainer and Mentor, that the character was used in it's advertising and on the Website to promote the competitive advantage of built-in help.
"Every high-tech company faces the problem of end-user support," says Mentor Media Group's CEO Dan Gallo, "and we're excited about the solution we've created for Tiny. We believe this is a model for all technology companies that need to reduce costs: from PC manufactures and makers of wireless devices, to software developers, ISPs, and developers of e-commerce sites and exchanges. We combine a highly customized solution with our shrink-wrapped products to help users assimilate faster while simultaneously reducing support costs."
Instant answers eliminate the need for courses Mentor integrates multimedia support into the desktop and/or into an individual software application. Whenever a user needs to know how to do something, the answer is available just by clicking the Mentor icon. Users watch a 30-to 90-second demonstration and can immediately perform the same steps themselves. It's the closest thing to having a full-time officemate who is always happy to give you the right answer. Mentor also eliminates the need for training. Companies can't afford all the courses and support required for constant deployment of new technology. People don't like taking courses and quickly forget most of what they learned. Mentor's "see it, hear it, do it" approach lets people complete a task without frustration.
