Mentor to be Bundled with Over Two Million NETGEAR Retail Products
Special "Mentor for Networking" marks beginning of
new marketing partnership with leading provider of networking products
Norwalk, CT, September 12, 2002 Mentor Media Group, (www.trymentor.com), the world's most successful line of communications, learning and support applications with more than seven million licenses sold to corporate and home users worldwide, has entered into a marketing partnership with NETGEAR Inc., a worldwide provider of easy-to-use, high performance networking products at prices affordable to homes and growing businesses. Mentor will provide "Mentor for Networking," a customized version of Mentor's leading software product line designed specifically for NETGEAR customers. The companies will also launch www.netgear.trymentor.com a co-branded eCommerce site.
"By bundling Mentor for Networking with NETGEAR's already easy-to-use networking products, we will deliver a unique solution to NETGEAR home and business customers that will further simplify networking," says Patrick Lo, president and CEO of NETGEAR. "For example, many calls received by our technical support are Windows operating system issues. Through Mentor for Networking's multimedia tutorial content we can deliver an even better 'out of the box' experience for our customers."
Under the terms of the agreement, NETGEAR will include and promote Mentor products as part of their product offering and launch a co-branded eCommerce site (www.netgear.trymentor.com) to sell Mentor products to their customers. In addition, promotional stickers will be placed on over two million boxes of NETGEAR products, alerting customers that the free Mentor for Networking product is inside. In return, Mentor has developed Mentor for Networking, a customized product created for NETGEAR's networking component products. Mentor for Networking will help small business and home users understand and use key applications in their new, networked environment. NETGEAR networking solutions enable users to share Internet access, digital content, and peripherals - such as printers, CD-ROM burners, and image scanners, as well as expand the functionality of existing software, all between multiple PCs. By offering a multimedia demonstration and explanation at the exact moment the user needs to be shown what to do, Mentor for Networking offers "virtual" IT expertise to users who typically do not have access to an actual IT department or help desk.
Mentor for Networking will be bundled on the installation CD-ROM for selected NETGEAR networking products sold at over 4,800 retail locations and catalogs nationwide, including Best Buy, CompUSA, Office Max, MicroCenter, and Fry's Electronics. Mentor for Networking will include new content developed specifically for NETGEAR, as well as content from the popular Mentor for Windows XP, Mentor for Windows 2000, Mentor for Office XP, Mentor for Office 2000 and Mentor for the Internet.
"We're very excited about this co-branding partnership, which will help increase Mentor's visibility in the mass consumer market," says Dan Gallo, CEO of Mentor. "We will now have a presence in significant retail outlets. Over two million new users will receive their first exposure to Mentor in the first year alone, and we believe it will lead them take advantage of our other products. It's a great cross-marketing opportunity for us- one we hope to replicate with other partners in other sectors."
Mentor accelerates end user success with any process, product or technology. A Mentor is comprised of short, just-in-time multimedia demonstrations designed to answer questions on how to perform functions in Windows XP, Windows 2000 and other leading applications. A Mentor can be added to any software application to motivate and instruct users and give them instant, multimedia demonstrations of how to perform any task.
